Background
Elena Hayes joined the firm in 2008 and was elevated to partner in 2015. Her practice focuses on medical malpractice and complex personal injury matters, including cases involving catastrophic injury and long-term care needs. Before law school, Elena worked for three years in health policy research, an experience that informs her handling of medically complex files.
Approach
Elena is known for the depth of her medical record review. She works closely with physician consultants to evaluate not only whether the standard of care was breached, but how that breach produced the specific harm the client experienced. She is deliberate with clients about the time and resources malpractice cases require, and she does not recommend proceeding unless the evidence and damages support the commitment.
Community
Elena mentors through the Women's Bar Association of Illinois and participates in a periodic clinic advising healthcare workers on employment matters. She has written for legal publications on the use of life-care plans in damages presentation.
